CoreRFID gets active with Ekahau

CoreRFID has signed a partnership agreement with WiFi active tag and network location systems specialist Ekahau. Intelligent active tags and software developed by Ekahau allow devices to be located in real time, anywhere on a WiFi network. Tags can announce movement or temperature changes, raise alarms or requests, pass messages to the network or use network information to allow their location to be identified by the Ekahau software system. Ekahau’s real time location system (RTLS) is already used in more than 150 hospitals around the world.

Using the Ekahau technologies, CoreRFID will implement solutions for a number of business sectors in the UK and Eire including health, local government, engineering, aviation, and construction. Solutions from CoreRFID using the Ekahau technology will include real time asset tracking systems, lone worker support systems, tool and maintenance management and health and safety support systems. CoreRFID will also create applications that combine passive RFID with active, intelligent, Ekahau system components providing the real-time location and alert aspects of the solution.

Barry Read, UK Business Development Manager for Ekahau, welcomed the agreement. “We are looking forward to working with CoreRFID, to help combine our technologies with their solutions.”

John Williams, CoreRFID’s Marketing Manager, believes the Ekahau technologies will make new types of application practical. “The Ekahau products allow us to use WiFi networks for real time location of people and things. It provides a further justification for investment in WiFi and the first practical way for objects to say ‘Here I am!’ using universally available infrastructure.”
