RFID & The Green Agenda

RFID technology may not be very green today but it does support some green applications and it will shape up to be greener in the future.

Some of the green problems presented by today’s RFID are very evident. After all the most important part of an RFID the processor and its antenna include silicon and metallic components and are not biodegradeable.

However the industry is carrying out research to create biodegradable and recyclable tags and RFID is often used to promote green applications like reuse and recycling. Its also used to monitor areas of concern to environmentalists - animal species, wood stocks and plant research specimens.
